I'm doing an International Trade Show this weekend in Poughkeepsie, NY. I did it last year and met a young man from Africa there who I hope to see again. While he was there, he worked with wire and beads and made the most wonderful creatures that you could imagine by bending and twisting wire into the shapes of lizards, giraffes, wall hangings etc. I bought a lizard which resides on my kitchen wall.
As he was working, he told me that as a young child, his family was very poor and he had no toys so he played with wire. Soon he was creating and then selling his work to tourists who would come to the area. After he became an adult, he moved to Germany (because that's where most of the tourists had come from) and lived there for a while, selling his work. Now he resides in Africa again but comes to the U.S. for a few months each year to sell in this country. I've seen a lot of crafts in the past twenty six years that I've been in business but his work impressed me more than anything, perhaps because I was there to actually see him create while he talked!

Learning Curve
It's been a long time since I've posted here and there has been a lot of living done in between......a trip out West to see the natural wonders like Old Faithful, and the Grand Tetons, in May, trips to Lake Winnepesauki in New Hampshire during the summer where our daughter and her husband have a cottage on an island..................
craft shows, leaf raking, creating new work and on and on.
I feel like I've been on a big learning curve during the past few weeks as I have some of my creations posted on Etsy.com and have received a couple of International orders which I wasn't expecting and didn't know how to deal with. I'm very fortunate to have a wonderful postmaster who is very helpful in steering me in the right direction when I have questions about custom forms or the best and safest way to ship. Navigating around Paypal has been a learning experience also but one that I'm grateful to have because it can only get easier the next time around. Right?
